Almost always when an ‘undisclosed fee’ deal is done between an English club and one overseas, the make-up of the deal is later reported in the local media of the non-English side.
With Ramiro Funes Mori’s move to Villarreal being for an undisclosed fee, the best place to look in Spain would be El Periodico Mediterráneo.
Sure enough, the Spanish newspaper has an article reporting what they say is the make-up of the Everton deal.
It’s claimed the defender’s injury hit period has seen his value drop ‘remarkably’, making the deal possible for Villarreal. El Periodico Mediterráneo believe a flat fee of €9m will be paid to Everton, and there are bonuses possible, although not guaranteed, on top of that.
Those bonuses, according to the claims, are based purely on the success of Villarreal.
One of the triggers would be the Spanish club qualifying for the Champions League next season. During the last campaign, Villarreal finished 5th, 12 points behind Valencia, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
If all the bonuses are achieved, it’s reported Everton would get close to the €12m they paid River Plate.
