Everton have ‘intensified’ their contacts with Rennes over a deal for striker Serhou Guirassy this summer.
That’s according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who says the Toffees are pushing for a loan deal with an option to buy.
Earlier today we covered a report that stated Everton are pushing for Guirassy, who Rennes are set to ship out after they sign Arnaud Kalimuendo from Paris Saint Germain.
That stated Everton were looking for a loan deal as they seek a replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who will be missing for at least six weeks with a knee injury.
It was also claimed that talks between the two clubs are well advanced and Hawkins backs that up somewhat.
He says ‘negotiations have intensified’ in recent hours, with Everton making a first offer of a loan with an option to buy. Rennes, though, ‘would like’ a straight up transfer.
He makes no mention of the price they are looking for Guirassy, who cost them £13.5m when he joined from Amiens in August 2020.
They would presumably like to recover most of that fee, which would also help with the deal for Kalimuendo, so it remains to be seen what they will demand.
The good news for Everton fans is that talks are underway, and seemingly picking up pace very quickly, so there are likely to be more details on the possible move sooner rather than later.
