Please, Ouest-France, make your mind up about whether or not Batista Mendy is staying at Nantes or going to Brighton.

Or maybe we should be pleading Batista Mendy to make his mind up and decide whether he wants to stay with the Ligue 1 side or move to the Premier League and join the Seagulls.

Either way, what we thought was a done and dusted story has reemerged on Tuesday thanks to a passing comment from the local French newspaper.

Brighton’s interest in the young defender dates back to the beginning of March, when Foot Mercato reported the 18-year-old was on the verge of signing with the Seagulls.

That was then picked up by other outlets, and it seemed the transfer was well on its way, until Ouest-France came out and said Mendy had changed his mind, deciding staying with Nantes was best for his career, at least for now.

However, the same outlet on Tuesday have come out and said that negotiations between Brighton and the young defender are still ongoing and, in fact, ‘advancing well’.

It seems the Seagulls aren’t out of it yet, and Chris Hughton might still get the young defender he’s been looking for.
