Right after the end of the transfer window, it was revealed that Swansea City had an offer for Andreas Samaris rejected.
As reported by the Portuguese press and confirmed by an agent, the Premier League side tried to take the Benfica midfielder in the last days of the January market, but failed to convince the Eagles.
The reasons for the rejection would be that the offer was not good enough, and Benfica wanted to keep Samaris as a squad option for the rest of the season.
But the thing is: Samaris hasn’t been playing, and that could give Swansea quite a good opportunity to get him in the summer market.
The Greek international has started only two league games for the Lisbon side this season. One in September, and the other in early January, when he was subbed off at half time.
Since Swansea’s offer was rejected at the end of the transfer window, Samaris made two appearances coming from the bench. In one of them, he played for nine minutes, and in the other, for only one minute.
That’s quite a disappointing situation for a player who Benfica were demanding €20m last summer. Even though Swansea’s offer was said to be of half of it, it still looked decent for someone who hasn’t been used.
If thing continue like this, and it seems it will, it’s very likely that Carlos Carvalhal side will have a better chance to convince Benfica to sell in the next transfer window.
