A couple of days ago, Goal in England reported ‘a deal is close to being sealed’ by Manchester City to bring Jorginho to the Etihad.
The Napoli midfielder has enjoyed a very good season with the Serie A side, playing a key role in their good form that has seen them stick to Juventus all season, with just one point separating the two sides with four league games to go.
Throughout the season, rumours sending the Italy international to England popped up left, right and centre, starting with a reported Bournemouth €20m attempt back in August, which was quickly pushed aside by Aurelio de Laurentiis.
While his agent is never going to come out and say “Yes, we are in talks with Manchester City and things are close”, he didn’t hide the fact big clubs wanted his client, even if leaving wasn’t a priority right now.
Speaking to Radio Marte, relayed by TuttoNapoli, he said: “Renewal at the end of the season? Yes, but only because there are four games left and we don’t want to disturb at the moment. There are important teams after him because of his season with club and country.
“If I speak with four or five important teams who want Jorginho, that doesn’t mean that it’s done or that he is leaving.”
So, from that, it seems the first port of call will be Napoli giving their midfielder a new deal.
Whether they do so knowing it’s just to get more money for him in the summer, from Manchester City or elsewhere, remains a mystery.
