Brighton and Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke has admitted he doesn’t know what the future will hold for him this summer.
The 20-year-old joined the Seagulls in a £1.8m deal from NAC Breda in September but is spending the season back in the Netherlands with Heerenveen.
He has been a regular for the club this season, with 21 appearances in the Eredivisie to his name so far.
His loan deal with the club expires in the summer, and as of yet, there has been no mention of whether Brighton will bring him to England or seek another loan deal.
There’s every chance it could be the former, with Brighton boss Graham Potter having shown a willingness to blood youngsters during his time in charge on the south coast.
Van Hecke could be the latest to benefit from that trust, but he admits he’s not sure what the future holds despite his rapid development.
“It’s never really fast enough for me. I always want more, but when you see how much I’ve played this season, that’s fine, of course,” he told Voetbal International.
“Last season, I only broke through halfway through the Eerste Divisie. Now I can call myself a basic player in the Eredivisie.
“Last summer, I had signed for the number of matches that I now have behind my name.
“In the coming weeks, it is important to pick up the from the beginning of this season and to really become important again for the team. That is my aim.
“It also depends on what exactly Brighton has in mind. Perhaps they are positive about that, but it may also be that they want me to join them in the summer, or that they want to rent me to a club from another country. That remains to be seen. ‘
