Former West Brom defender Jonas Olsson has given his reasons for leaving the Premier League club after nine seasons. Today it was announced Olsson had joined Djurgarden from West Brom, being released from his contract.
Speaking to Djurgarden’s official site, Olsson said his lack of games this season was behind the exit. The 33-year-old thinks it’s been a good campaign for the Baggies, and subsequently competition for places has been tough.
The Swede singled out Jonny Evans as one player who has kept him out of the team because of the quality he’s showing this campaign.
“I haven’t had much playing time at West Brom. It’s been a really good year for the team, but the competition has been really tough, especially with Jonny Evans who I think is one of the league’s best central defenders,” said Olsson on his departure.
Olsson has returned to his home country after a thirteen year absence which saw him make his name at Dutch side NEC before his move to West Brom. The former Sweden international has been a key player for West Brom over the years, but struggled to get hasn’t been a major player for the club this season.
