Former Leeds United forward Mirco Antenucci has told the Italian media playing in the Championship was overly physical. The 31-year-old this summer returned to Italy with SPAL after being released by Leeds United in May.

Speaking to Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport, Antenucci was asked about returning to his home country, and how he compared his time at Leeds Untied to playing in Serie B.

The Italian said he found the Championship a hard league to play in because of its physical nature, and believes there was less tactics, and more emphasis on set pieces.

Despite being Leeds United’s top scorer in his first season, Antenucci was released by the club at the end of last season after two years in England.

The player has been in impressive form for his new club in recent weeks, including scoring a hat trick against Avellino on Monday night.
