On January 23rd, we covered a report from Mundo Deportivo, who claimed that negotiations between Barcelona and Arsenal have broken down for Denis Suarez.
The Gunners wanted the midfielder on a loan transfer, and the two clubs were working towards an agreement.
A loan would have needed Suarez to extend his Barcelona contract, but it was claimed the terms offered weren’t acceptable.
Suarez informed Ernesto Valverde that he will continue at the Camp Nou, if his move to the north London club doesn’t materialise.
Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claims the former Villarreal man’s future is in the air after negotiations between the La Liga winners and the Gunners collapsed.
Suarez’s contract with the Catalan club runs down in 2020 and it is claimed that apart from the English side, Sevilla and Real Betis are also interested in him and are willing to pay €20m to land him in the winter market.
Mundo also cites journalist Manu Carreño’s comments made on Cadena SER’s El Larguero. He explains that Barca will ‘threaten’ him to take away from the first team if he does not accept one of the two proposals from the Spanish clubs.
However, the player’s entourage insist that Suarez will leave the Camp Nou in January only for Arsenal, and say they haven’t received any threats from Barcelona.
Unai Emery wants to reunite with his former player and to be successful in getting the deal over the line, he and Arsenal have only a week left.
