Back when James Rodriguez joined Everton and things were going fine with Carlo Ancelotti, the Colombian media would make sure to have several stories about how the national team star was doing well in England.

Now with his relationship with Rafa Benitez not going so great, the stories go completely the other way, sometimes with a bit of exaggeration.

Following the doubt regarding Rodriguez’s participation in Everton’s match against Burnley tonight, outlet Marca features a piece with a headline saying: ‘Is James Rodríguez preparing for the most terrible year of his career with Rafa Benítez?’

Their story points out that Rodriguez now lives a similar situation to the one he had at Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane a couple of years ago, as they also tried to sell him and his big price stopped his exit.

Marca says that resulted in James’ worst season in his career, and now this ‘deja-vu’ could happen at Goodison Park.

They write Benitez has ‘made it public’ that the midfielder isn’t in his plans and that puts the last year of his contract with the Toffees in danger.
