FC Twente’s players should treat their clash against Manchester United like a school trip and make the most of the experience.
That’s according to journalist Valentijn Driessen, via De Telegraaf, who believes it is pointless for the Dutch side to do anything else.
Manchester United host Twente at Old Trafford in matchday one of the Europa League league phase that has been introduced this year.
United have been made huge favourites for the game, even with Erik ten Hag expected to field a rotated side as his focus remains on getting Manchester United on track in the Premier League.
That’s led to plenty of conversation in the Netherlands, where some believe that Twente might have a slight chance of pulling off a shock result against their former manager.
In fact, some journalists have even been sending stern words to the players, insisting that they take the game as seriously as possible and not get caught up in the experience of playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Driessen is having none of that, though, and believes they should do everything they can to get the most of out of the trip.
“You can already fill in the result. That will be a victory for Manchester United,” he said.
“I think it’s very brave and tough of the people of Twente that they think they have a real chance. There may be one player that Erik ten Hag would put up tonight from SV Twente. And that is Sam Stein, because he scores goals. And that is the big problem with Manchester United, scoring goals.
“So as far as that is concerned, I think that he has no other player in mind from SV Twente. Otherwise, he would have made it last summer. So yes, this will be a defeat for Twente.
“It’s definitely a school trip. If I were those guys, I would just take a picture of myself with the crowd at Old Trafford. And change your shirt, because I guess that maybe one player will come back to Old Trafford. But then as a supporter. Sam Stein.”
