Manchester United will not be able to activate Napoli defender Kim Min-Jae’s release clause in January, should they wish to do so.
That’s according to Gianluca di Marzio, who explains neither interested parties or the player can activate the current clause in the player’s deal.
Kim has been in great form at Napoli since arriving in the summer as a replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly, who joined Chelsea.
He’s been a huge hit at the club since, establishing himself as a key player and earning plenty of rave reviews for his performances thus far.
They have no gone unnoticed either, with reports in England stating that Manchester United are keeping an eye on him and potentially eyeing a future transfer.
Di Marzio covers those reports today and how they stated Manchester United could take advantage of a €45m release clause to sign the defender.
He confirms that such a clause does exist, but it is actually around €50m, so slightly more than has been reported elsewhere.
Crucially, though, there is another aspect that states the clause cannot be exercised in January by other clubs or the player himself.
Thus, he won’t be available in the January transfer window, at least not by activating his release clause, and any interested club, whether it be Manchester United or someone else, will have to instead wait until the summer if they want to take advantage of it.
