Luisão is the new Talisca. After so many claims saying the Brazilian defender was signing for Wolverhampton, the door is ‘definitely closed’, according to A Bola.
The newspaper says the transfer was never that close to happening, since the player and the English club only had informal talks about it.
Luisão intended to earn €2m net per season at Wolves plus the €1.5 from his year of contract left at Benfica. But the option was never ‘too concrete’ and the parties didn’t reach an agreement.
The 35-year-old is now set to stay at Benfica where he’s been for 14 years.
He and manager Rui Vitória had a discussion this weekend when the boss promised Luisão he’ll be treated with respect, despite his age and the fact he has only one season left at the club.
A Bola says Luisão has no other options to leave now. Benfica offered him a role at the club, but he doesn’t want to retire so soon and maybe a return to Brazil will be an option when the local window opens.
