The agent of Newcastle United defender Achraf Lazaar has told the Italian media he wants to play for the Premier League club again next season.

The player was loaned out to Serie A side Benevento during the last summer window.

Speaking to TMW, Roberto De Fanti was quizzed about the player’s future with the Magpies: “Lazaar has a contract until 2021 with Newcastle, he wants to return to play for Benitez and he intends to refuse all the other destinations.”

With Rafael Benitez bringing in Kenedy from Chelsea on loan in the last transfer window, and possibly making the move permanent this summer, it seems the 26 year old Morocco international faces a battle to be in the Spaniard’s long term plans.

It’s looking likely Lazaar will return to Newcastle United in the summer after Benevento were relegated to Serie B, but another move could then be on the cards in this window, depending on Benitez’s wishes.

At this stage of his career the fullback needs to be playing regular football and that will surely factor in any decision.
