On Monday, one of the most anticipated games of a normal Premier League season was played: Liverpool vs Everton.
The Merseyside derby tends to be a heated affair regardless of the two clubs’ situations, and this one was extra important for a number of reasons.
Firstly, Liverpool aren’t having the best campaign to date by their standards, and needed a boost, which they got by beating the Toffees 2-0.
Everton, on the other hand, were hoping to use their 1-0 victory over Arsenal to kickstart a good run of games under new manager Sean Dacha, but weren’t able to do so, with the next game against Leeds a far more favourable matchup.
Either way, there were one man in the stands noticed for his history in the Premier League, and that was José Fonte, who was spotted watching the game at Anfield as Liverpool beat Everton.
Currently with Lille, the player was asked about his trip by the media, relayed by Le Petit Lillois.
He said: “I went with Lucas, my son. He’d been asking about it for a while. Liverpool are his favourite club. His favourite player is Van Dijk. His father isn’t the favourite. It’s a special game, there’s always that special atmosphere. I’d never been as a fan. So it was a nice experience for me. I can watch a good game, I was able to meet some old friends and the evening went well.”
