The interest from English clubs in the Vitória de Setúbal defender Toni Borevkovic continues to be highlighted by the Portuguese media.
Newspaper O Jogo brings a long story today saying that Blackburn Rovers, Bournemouth and Newcastle United are all interested in the 22-year-old.
They claim that these three clubs are regularly sending scouts to watch him in action for Vitória, even though there’s nothing about negotiations between the sides.
O Jogo even managed to speak to Borevkovic about the interest. The defender claims he doesn’t know anything about it, even though he says he’s happy for having his potential acknowledged.
“When I got to Rio Ave, I knew I would have to play good games and be consistent in order to be able to go even further. Of course, it is good to know that we are being watched and that there may already be some interest, but I have to continue working to improve even more”, Borevkovic told O Jogo.
“I’m just focused on Rio Ave to make a great season and I don’t pay much attention to the news.”
O Jogo makes sure to say that none of Blackburn, Bournemouth or Newcastle have made a bid for the player so far. His contract with Vitória runs until 2023.
Although he’s valued at €1.5m by Transfermarkt, the Portuguese side would obviously want a little more.
Still, it sounds like a better plan for Blackburn, Bournemouth or Newcastle to sign him now than waiting until he gets to Benfica, Porto or Sporting. That’s when players in the Portuguese league get really expensive.
