Former West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson has revealed Queens Park Rangers tried to sign him when Harry Redknapp was manager of the West London team.
Yesterday Olsson signed for Swedish side Djurgarden after nine seasons with West Brom.
In an interview with Expressen, Olsson was quizzed about the speculation Redknapp wanted to take him to QPR. The 33-year-old confirmed QPR were showing an interest in signing him, but he never came as close to signing for the club as he did with Tottenham Hotspur.
Olsson said QPR’s interest came off the back of a good season with West Brom, and the fact Redknapp had previously tried to sign him when he was at Tottenham.
“Yes, but it was not as close. I had a good season with West Bromwich and QPR then tried to line up a deal. Harry Redknapp liked me,” said the Swede on nearly joining QPR.
With the Swedish transfer window still open Olsson was yesterday able to sign for Djurgardens before the new Allsvenskan season starts next month. The veteran defender would have been a free agent this summer, but he was allowed to terminate his contract early by West Brom.
