Zinho Vanheusden was repeatedly linked with Liverpool over the summer. The 18 year old Inter Milan defender had been attracting interest from clubs keen on a loan or a permanent deal.
Liverpool were one of the sides most mentioned but Southampton were in there too. Perhaps the two had this time decided to have a transfer battle over a player at another club, rather than over a player swapping St Mary’s for Anfield.
Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg have been speaking to Vanheusden and brought up the Southampton and Liverpool interest, before allowing the youngster to explain the interest hasn’t gone to his head.
“I know very well that you can be God one day and could be finished the next day. There were indeed teams who wanted to loan me, but I didn’t think it was the right time.”
Vanheusden will continue his development with Inter, ahead of a potential loan in the winter window or next summer, and it’s a given Premier League clubs will be watching the Belgian defender.
Among those are likely to be Southampton and Liverpool, there’s no reason for either side to drop their interest at this stage.
