Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci has told the Italian media he expected more from his move to England in 2014. The 27-year-old is currently on loan with Serie A side Empoli because of his desire to return to Italy.

TMW have reported on comments Bellusci made to Sky Italia after last night’s clash between Empoli and Crotone. The Italian said he was relishing joining Leeds United, but as time went it on said it got more difficult. Bellusci said that due to personal reasons the move didn’t go as planned, and revealed he needed to return to his home country.

“I was full of dreams then over time it became more difficult and for personal reasons I came back,” said the Leeds United player.

Bellusci scored on his home debut for Empoli last night, and now seems settled at the Tuscan club after a slow start. Empoli have a right of redemption on the central defender, and are likely to exercise this if he continues to impress for the club.

Despite signing for Leeds United, Bellusci would regularly return to Italy to catch up with his friends at Ascoli, and also watch his former club.
