One of the more prominent Newcastle United transfer stories of the past few weeks, Achraf Lazaar’s exit from St James’ Park isn’t going quite to plan just yet.

Newcastle’s interest in Genoa’s Diego Laxalt was touted to potentially see the Morocco international go the other way, but for that to happen, he would need someone to make an offer for him.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, that hasn’t happened, and the 25-year-old has now returned to England to wait a bit longer.

The Italian newspaper explain Lazaar travelled to Milan over the weekend to hold talks with Italian sides, yet his trip back to our rainy shores is due to a ‘lack of concrete offers’.

Newcastle are said to want to include the defender in a deal for Laxalt, rather than have to get rid of him separately, but it seems Genoa aren’t all that keen on that.

This isn’t the end of his transfer window, however, as Corriere state there’s still a strong chance he will move before the end of the month.

Perhaps just a setback?
