If the latest TuttoMercatoWeb exclusive is to be believed (we wouldn’t 100% recommend you holding your breath), Davide Santon’s career since 2011 could easily read as Inter-Newcastle-Inter-Newcastle.
The Italian full-back, once lauded as one of the best young defenders in Europe, hasn’t exactly had the best of season at his childhood club, playing less than 1000 minutes of football spread out over 13 appearances in all competitions.
With that little first-team football at his disposal in Milan, TMW explain his future appears to be far from the San SIro, and a sale in the summer could be on the cards.
His representatives are said to be looking for an exit route for the former Newcastle defender, and the Italian website report his preference would be a return to English football, with hope he could end up at St James’ Park next season.
Apparently, contact between Rafa Benitez and Santon’s entourage has been taking place over the past few weeks, who knows the 26-year-old from his brief time managing Inter Milan in 2010/11.
TuttoMercatoWeb explain the decision here remains the Spaniard’s, who is yet to commit to Newcastle beyond this season, despite taking them back into the Premier League just one season after their relegation to the Championship.
And with Santon’s contract with Inter running out in 2018, it shouldn’t exactly be an expensive deal either.
