Having finally sold Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus, Napoli now face another difficult task as they try and keep hold of another one of their stars.
Kalidou Koulibaly, nicknamed K2 in the Italian press, broke through as one of the more impressive defenders in Serie A last season, and the list of teams wanting his services isn’t dwindling.
Napoli have made it clear they want a hefty fee for the defender, which Chelsea are seemingly prepared to pay, and the player’s agent, Bruno Satin, is determined to get something sorted for his client.
Speaking multiple times to the Italian media over the past few weeks, his latest public service announcement, this time to Il Mattino hinted that a transfer could still happen.
He said: “Napoli aren’t making it obvious that they want to keep him. It’s not only Chelsea, Kalidou has other options. When there is someone willing to give you a much more important contract than what you already have, it’s normal for you to give it some thought.”
Trying to reassure Napoli fans, the agent also made it clear that until an agreement was reached, his client would give his all for Napoli.
Everton were also said to be interested in the player, but their presence as one of the closest clubs to getting a deal done has dwindled somewhat lately.
Chelsea are still the named club, the ones used to maybe get Napoli to offer a new improved contract, but it’ll be interesting to see if the names of these ‘other options’ start to filter through over the next few days or so.
