Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic has been linked to a long list of clubs over the past couple of years, with rumours getting more intense now that his contract with the Serie A is about to expire.
Last week, we covered West Ham United being named as one of the contenders for his signing as a free agent this summer. Now we get to see some more clubs who are keen on the 29-year-old.
Reports from Italy today suggest that besides the Hammers, Crystal Palace are working to get the defender as well, along with a couple of Spanish sides.
The claims come from Corriere Dello Sport journalist Antonio Giordano, who says Maksimovic still has a little bit of hope that Napoli could make another offer for a new contract.
“Napoli are definitely looking for one or two defenders, with Maksimovic leaving. Would he like to stay? I think it’s his wish and perhaps he also carries with him the regret of not having accepted the renewal a year ago,” Giordano told Radio Marte (via Area Napoli).
And regarding the clubs who want the defender, Giordano came up with the full list.
“He has had offers from Betis, Sevilla, West Ham and Crystal Palace but hasn’t decided. I guess he’s waiting for Napoli to think again.”
So even though it seemed like Maksimovic would be free to choose a new club this summer, it now looks like the player himself is having second thoughts about leaving the Serie A side. Crystal Palace and West Ham best have convincing arguments to take him out of Italy.
