Vukasin Jovanovic is spending the rest of the season in Ligue 1, in a change of scenery from the Russian league. Zenit St Petersburg have loaned the player out to Bordeaux, in the hope that he can build on his experience and return a better defender, or increase his profile and bring in a better transfer fee.
Jovanovic’s path to the first team has been made more difficult with Zenit signing Branislav Ivanovic from Chelsea, so the 20 year old agreed to the loan to get more time on the pitch.
His ambitions don’t stop there and the Serbia U21 international fancies his chances of playing in the Premier League in the future. Chelsea would be an option, just like Ivanovic, but Jovanovic is also keen on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Sports Daily in Russia interviewed Jovanovic and that’s how the Liverpool comment arose: “Chelsea or Liverpool. If not England, two of my favourite clubs – Borussia Dortmund and Napoli.”
Jovanovic is a right footed central defender who can also operate in defensive midfield. Right now he’s probably not on the scouting radar of Liverpool, and certainly not on Klopp’s wanted list, but progressing at Bordeaux could change that.
Making it clear he’d be up for a transfer to Anfield would obviously be a positive should Liverpool cast their eyes on the defender in the future.
