It’s a genuine surprise that Kara Mbodj remains at Anderlecht, considering the interest in him during the winter transfer window.

Anderlecht stood firm and refused to sell the defender midway through the season, and ultimately he helped them win the league.

Leicester City and Crystal Palace were the Premier League clubs most linked with Kara, and he’s insisted the chance to join the Foxes was real.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, Kara said: “Really, in January, I could have signed for Leicester, but I don’t look back.”

On whether a transfer could still happen, Kara said: “If it’s a better thing for all parties, a transfer can still be, but for the time being I’ve decided to stay.”

There’s every chance Leicester City and others were put off by negative stories emerging about Kara after the January window had closed. Interest from England was said to have gone to the defender’s head, and he was believing too much in his nickname ‘King Kara’.

Kara explained during the interview that if he does move from Anderlecht, he wants it to be to a bigger club, he won’t just accept a team because they’re English.

The former, and perhaps still current, Leicester City target also explained he wont just move for money, else he’d be in Turkey already.
