Newcastle United are in mix to sign Emir Ortakaya in the summer, according to Akşam.
The 18-year-old joined Fenerbahçe’s academy from Gençlerbirliği in 2021 and was sent out on loan at Göztepe SK last summer. He has impressed for the second division Turkish club, making 25 appearances in all competitions this season.
Ortakaya’s performances for Göztepe have seen Newcastle Marseille and Lyon take notice.
The defender is ‘followed closely’ by the aforementioned clubs, who have been analysing him for a long time. These teams could also be ‘willing to pay a lot’ of money to secure his services, but there’s no mention of the fee they are ready to offer.
It’s claimed Newcastle and others could knock on the Istanbul club’s door for the centre-back after this season.
The Turkey U19 international hasn’t made an appearance for Fenerbahçe’s first team, but they are aware of his potential. The teenager is currently valued at €500,000 and has a contract at his parent club until 2027.
Akşam explain a fee of around €10m is expected for Fenerbahçe to consider Ortakaya’s sale. They have to pay 20% of the fee from his future sale to his old club, Gençlerbirliği.
Newcastle seem to be ‘willing to pay a lot’ for Ortakaya, but the price quoted in the report may not be a problem for the English side.
