Thomas Meunier is a Manchester United fan.
He’s never hidden it, and it’s encouraged transfer links with the Premier League club.
As L’Equipe explained last week, it’s also got him into trouble at PSG. Last season, the defender took a trip to watch a match at Old Trafford, and arrived back late after bad weather saw his flight delayed.
With Manchester United in the market for a right back, and with PSG looking to sell the Belgian, all the pieces fit nicely together.
Meunier has also had run-ins with sections of PSG’s support in recent months, over not a great deal, so it can be expected he doesn’t want to upset them more.
That’s why it’s no surprise he’s told Belgium’s RTBF that he’d like to stay at the French club, and potentially extend his contract which has a year left to run. The sentiment may also be genuine, his family are settled in Paris and he’s been getting games, not completely ostracised.
But if a transfer is to happen, it’s clear Meunier would jump at the chance of moving to Old Trafford, along with other attractive options.
He told RTBF: “At the level of rumours, I am quoted everywhere. Only beautiful clubs are named. Manchester United, Juve, Dortmund, these are just exceptional clubs.”
If PSG don’t want to prolong his stay, Meunier said he wants to find himself a ‘nice’ option for the coming seasons.
