Eintracht Frankfurt will be seeing several players leave the club this summer, and Bild report one of those is likely to be Jetro Willems.
The left-back signed for the German club in July 2017 but hasn’t been able to live up to expectations. Bild say he cost the club €4.5m, yet hasn’t even justified that.
A move to the Premier League is expected in the summer, and it’s claimed Newcastle United and Fulham have been interested.
Given Fulham have been relegated to the Championship, that leaves the Magpies as the one top flight destination mentioned in England.
At the weekend, Willems spoke to VTBL in the Netherlands and said he has interest from AS Roma and Newcastle, which would further back up a potential move to Rafael Benitez’s club.
More highly rated when he was at PSV, the 25 year old has plenty of time to still reach the heights he’ll have wanted to.
It’s down to Newcastle whether to give him that chance. He has a contract with Frankfurt until June 2021.
