A couple of days ago we brought a story from Portugal which was a surprise to anyone with any vague interest. Leeds United were said to be close to completing a deal to sign Alexis Scholl.
Scholl is on Benfica’s books, but the 20 year old hasn’t broken through at the club yet. The Belgian signed for the Portuguese side from Anderlecht last summer. After spending a few months at Benfica B, he was sent on loan to Gent, they had a buying option which was never activated.
Then after that, silence.
There’s been no update in the Portuguese media, and there’s been nothing in Belgium either. At this point we’d usually contact the player’s agent, but Scholl isn’t listed as actually having one.
That would suggest he knows what he’s doing. The next question is whether it’s Scholl’s actual account. It would be very odd if it’s not, someone would have been pretending to be a little known Belgium football for years.
In addition, he’s followed by Benfica’s official account, which should pretty much confirm it.
This one is a strange one indeed, we’ll keep digging for more information.
