A week or so ago, we relayed an article from Corriere dello Sport on an alleged interest from Manchester United and Chelsea in Alessandro Florenzi.
The AS Roma defender/midfielder’s contract is expiring next summer, and the Serie A club are currently in the process of trying to get him tied down for longer.
Their plan was to do so ‘for life’, but, as we all know, money talks in football, and if a big offer were to land on the Italian side’s desk, they probably would have to consider it.
A fee of €30-40m was talked about, which is a lot for Chelsea considering they already have Victor Moses and Davide Zappacosta for the role, but with Antonio Conte probably leaving, Stamford Bridge might not be his destination.
Il Messaggero on Thursday make it clear that any interest from the Blues would be driven by the Italian, and with his exit from the club ‘probable’, wherever he ends up after that, ‘a thought towards Florenzi will be made’.
While everything seems to point towards the former Juventus manager leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer, it hasn’t happened yet.
Until it does, Florenzi will remain a ‘Chelsea target’.
After that, who knows?
