Touted as Maurizio Sarri’s first ‘real’ Chelsea signing (outside of the Jorginho one), Daniele Rugani appears to be edging ever closer to Stamford Bridge.

All Chelsea need to do is offer €50m, which they are yet to do, having seen their first attempt of €40m rejected by the Serie A champions.

This is what Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting first thing on Monday, claiming Maurizio Sarri is awaiting the 23-year-old to make him the ‘lynchpin’ of his Chelsea defence going forward.

Over at Juventus, Rugani is said to want the move, both to be reunited with the manager that helped him improve and get a move to Turin in the first place, as well as seeing his wages increase considerably.

The young defender will see his salary double with a move to Stamford Bridge, taking his package to €4m/year.

Considering Chelsea already have five first-team centre-backs on their books and Sarri’s preference to play a back four, a couple of departures could follow Rugani’s arrival, with David Luiz the likely early sacrifice should a club be interested, if rumours are to be believed.
