Scoring fairly regularly on loan at Anderlecht, Fabio Silva’s goals away from Wolverhampton Wanderers have come in patches, with him finding the back of the net nine times in 21 games.

He has assisted another two, and his latest goal came in a 3-2 loss to Zulte Waregem on Thursday night, where he was also the recipient of a dangerous tackle by Timothy Derijck.

It was late stamp on the player’s lower leg that could have easily resulted in a serious injury, but the Wolves loanee is thankfully alright, being taken off a good 50 minutes or so later in the 86th minute.

Still, the challenge was late, resulting in a penalty (which Silva took and scored) and should have been a red card (not the yellow he received), but in the moment, the defender wasn’t aware of how bad it was, even saying after the game, relayed by Voetbal International: “He gives a cross and I put my foot under it. If that is a yellow or a red, we have to look at other competitions. There is never a penalty there.”

However, Derijck has since owned up to his mistake, taking to Instagram to reach out to Silva and the rest of the fans who witnessed the incident to apologise after viewing the video himself.

He wrote: ‘The moment you think it’s okay until you see the images. Sorry Fabio Silva, Anderlecht and Eleven Sports (who interviewed him)’.

All this will be a sigh of relief for Wolves, who could have seen a big prospect of theirs seriously injured, but thankfully, he walked away unscathed.

Silva arrived at the Molineux club for £36m from Porto, but never managed to impress at a young age for the club, which is why he has been sent on loan to Anderlecht to get some minutes and more experience before returning to the English side.
