Sunderland’s Nazariy Rusyn spent the second half of this season on loan at Hajduk Split.

Régis Le Bris handed the striker just 66 minutes from eight Championship games and that convinced him to join the Croatian club in January.

The Sunderland man played 716 minutes from 17 games for Hajduk Split, failing to score and managing an assist in the process.

Hajduk Split have secured a purchase option and earlier this month, claims from Croatia stated they are pondering whether or not to exercise it.

Gennaro Gattuso’s side have made a decision and that’s to walk away from the 26-year-old. That’s according to Sportske Novosti, who explain what led them to come to this conclusion.

They expected ‘a lot’ from the Ukrainian, but he failed deliver. Therefore, they will not exercise the €2m buying option. This is ‘too much’ considering his performances on the pitch for Hajduk Split.

Rusyn now has to return to the Stadium of Light where he has a contract until 2027. The Black Cats have secured promotion to the Premier League and he’s unlikely to be part of Le Bris’ plans next season.

The frontman could be on the move again in the summer window.
