Anwar El Ghazi made his first team debut with Ajax in 2014 and had a good start to his career with the Eredivisie outfit.

The winger failed to live up the hype of his debut season and saw his opportunities limited with the Dutch club.

Lille signed the Netherlands international in January 2017, but he couldn’t showcase his 2014/15 form with the Ligue 1 outfit and they loaned him out to Aston Villa last summer.

According to Calciomercato, the 23-year-old was once attracting interest from Serie A clubs such as Juventus, AC Milan and AS Roma.

Despite the interest from the aforementioned clubs, and others more recently, El Ghazi moved to Villa Park on a season-long loan deal and the Italian website claim the switch to the Championship was a ‘real step back’ for the player.

El Ghazi has shown signs of regaining his best form with the English club, but the report makes clear the level of the Championship is not as the same as playing in the European competitions with top clubs.

In 17 league appearances, the attacker has scored four goals and registered two assists for Villa.
