Nayef Aguerd’s transfer from Rennes to West Ham United is ‘more relevant than ever’, according to Ouest-France on Tuesday.

The Hammers have identified the centre-back as a target to bolster their defence, and have taken steps to sign him this summer.

West Ham made an offer to Rennes last week and have been in talks with the Ligue 1 side since then to secure the 26-year-old.

As of yesterday, there was ‘no agreement’ between the two clubs for the defender’s transfer. The report states the negotiations has been ongoing between them.

It’s claimed the bonuses are the ‘stumbling block’ for the Morocco international to join David Moyes’ side. Although it is an issue for now, the newspaper explains the deal is still on the ‘right track’.

The fee quoted is ranging between €35m and €40m, including bonuses.

Ouest-France add the figures should be taken with caution since it’s precisely bonuses that are at the heart of negotiations between West Ham and Rennes.

Aguerd managed four goals and three assists from 40 matches in all competitions last season.
