Today was a big day for Cedric Soares, who travelled to Italy and completed his medicals ahead of a loan deal to Inter.

The Southampton right-back is set to arrive on an initial €1m loan with an option to buy of around €10-11m (according to Gazzetta dello Sport), which we saw as a rather poor deal.

As the Italian newspaper pointed out, this gave Inter ‘all the power’, who could easily just send Cedric back if things didn’t work out, and that might be exactly what happens.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the deal for the Southampton defender is merely a ‘stop gap’, and will only be bought if he has a ‘perfect’ six months.

The website explain that Inter have been in touch regarding a summer move for Elseid Hysaj, which suggests he’s their top target for next season, once Sime Vrsaljko and Cedric Soares return to Atlético Madrid and St Mary’s respectively.

Perhaps not the greatest of signs for the Portuguese full-back, Ralph Hasenhuttl and co.

It’s hardly a shock.
