Southampton were quite active in the winter transfer window.
While it is not known whether the new signings will improve the Saints or not, Ivan Juric’s side probably needed more arrivals to bolster their side. They are, after all, ten points away from safety.
It now seems as if Southampton missed out on a potential signing a player rather late in the window.
The player in question is Strasbourg’s Abakar Sylla, who has played 13 times in Ligue 1 for the French club this season.
Tuttomercatoweb report that Southampton ‘had their eye’ on the Ivorian centre-back and there was also interest from Italian giants Lazio.
The report states that Parma ended up sealing a move for the 22-year-old, securing an initial loan with the option to buy deal.
While the Saints missed out on their target, Parma couldn’t complete the move either due to issues around paperwork. Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Strasbourg failed to send documents for the transfer in time.
This might possibly give hope to Southampton in the summer and it would be interesting to see if they return for Sylla later or not.
