Liverpool haven’t failed to notice Matthijs de Ligt, believes his Netherlands teammate Virgil van Dijk.

There’s no claim of a transfer approach or serious interest, but the former Southampton player has no doubt that those in charge of transfers at Anfield will have noted down the name of the Ajax rising star.

Speaking to De Telegraaf during the current international break, Van Dijk was asked if he’s dropped De Ligt’s name into the transfer thinking at Liverpool, and he made it clear he didn’t feel the need to… because the youngster will have already caught the club’s attention.

Van Dijk is quoted as saying: “He will be on the list, because they have enough scouts at the club.”

That wasn’t enough for the Dutch newspaper, who asked the 27 year old if the best scout is the one who plays next to De Ligt at the centre of the Netherlands’ defence: “No, but if they need my opinion at Liverpool, I’ll give it.”

Van Dijk and De Ligt would be a dream central defence partnership that Liverpool fans would surely get behind. However, right now there’s no suggestion of any serious interest or approaches for the player.

Ajax will be looking for a very high fee should they sell the 19 year old in the summer, partly because of how much Liverpool paid for Van Dijk.
