The “days of George Best will return” if Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia joins Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Christian Vieri, who believes the Georgian would be reminiscent of the Manchester United icon should he make the switch.
Kvaratskhelia has been one of the star men for Napoli this season after joining the Italian side in an €11.5m deal from Dinamo Batumi last summer.
Since then he has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as a key player in Napoli’s first team and shining in Serie A and the Champions League.
He has 11 goals and 11 assists in 22 games in the former as well as two goals and four assists in six games in the latter so far, with those tallies likely to rise before now and the end of the season.
It’s seen the 22-year-old earn plenty of praise as well as interest from around Europe, with many predicting that the biggest clubs will come calling for the Georgian before too long.
Manchester United could be one of those, having already been linked with teammates Victor Osimhen and Kim Min-jae this season.
Vieri can certainly see a move happening and believes Kvaratskhelia would be reminiscent of George Best at his, well, best.
“Spalletti doesn’t just say things: he said that Kim is the best centre back in the world and that Kvaratskhelia’s goal was worthy of Maradona,” he said on Bobo TV, relayed by Calcio Napoli 1926.
“The goal he scored was the stuff of madness! If he goes to Manchester United, the days of George Best will return, Kvaratskhelia is the same. I can’t wait for Wednesday to see Napoli play.”
