Dan Ashworth appears to be leading Manchester United’s interest in Juventus defender Gleison Bremer and Inter Milan’s Nico Barella, as both were targets for Newcastle United.
That’s according to Inter Live, who say the director of football could be at the head of a €140m double bid in the summer should he take charge at Old Trafford.
They explain that Ashworth could be heading up a ‘sensational transfer operation’, with him ready to ‘plunder’ the first and second placed teams in Serie A.
Bremer is a player at the top of his list, having reportedly tried to sign him for Newcastle last summer, and he would be ready to send an offer of €60m to secure the Brazilian’s signature.
The belief is that he would be the ‘object of desire’ for Ashworth should he arrive at Old Trafford as anticipated.
Barella, meanwhile, would cost €80m but there is a belief, perhaps a misplaced one, that Manchester United would be willing to put that figure ‘on Inter’s table’ to secure his signature ‘at the explicit request’ of Ashworth.
He seems to think that both player would be of ‘absolute value’ to Erik ten Hag, so a €140m double bid would be sanctioned.
It’s a situation to keep an eye on according to Inter Live, although they are assuming a couple of things. First that Ashworth will arrive at Manchester United from Newcastle and be able to work in this summer and secondly, that he will simply want to sign the same players he eyed up at St James Park.
That’s a little simplistic and we all know transfers and strategies for directors work very differently, but Bremer and Barella are names to keep an eye on either way.
