Fernando Llorente left Swansea City and made a late switch to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window of 2017.
Since joining the north London club, the striker has struggled to feature regularly and has made only one start in the Premier League so far, playing 236 minutes in the league since the start of the last season.
He expected to have limited playing time with his current employer as Mauricio Pochettino has the services of Harry Kane at his disposal, meaning the England international will always be preferred ahead of the former Athletic Club Bilbao man.
The 33-year-old’s side will face Barcelona in the Champions League tie at Wembley and the player sat down for an interview with Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, in which he spoke about his current position at Spurs.
“It is not easy. It’s a daily struggle against yourself because it costs to accept the situation that you live, and when you leave the bench or when you are not called, it is frustrating. But, I try to train at the maximum level every day so that I get my opportunity,” Llorente explained.
Even though the Spaniard’s playing time is limited, he has a different outlook on his situation with his club.
“The decisions we make in life are irrevocable and I never will look back to regret. Now that I don’t play I think that I am healthy and that I enjoy what I like the most, even if it is in training. I have health, my family is an important support and in life there are things beyond football,” he said.
Those Tottenham wages must help such a philosophical stance.
