The Brazilian media today shares an interesting story involving Crystal Palace and São Paulo fullback Welington.
The article comes from Tupi, and says that Botafogo are currently analysing the possibility of signing the 22-year-old soon.
The outlet recalls that Welington was wanted by European sides last year, and Crystal Palace were among them.
It’s said the Eagles made an approach for his signing, competing with the likes of CSKA, Fiorentina, Brentford and Besiktas.
What makes this story interesting is that Crystal Palace shareholder John Textor is usually the one watching Brazilian talents. And Botafogo, who now want the player, are owned by him.
So it pretty much seems like the businessman kept the player in mind and now tries to take him to the Rio de Janeiro side instead.
Welington’s contract with São Paulo expires in December, and there’s some uncertainty regarding his future at the club.
In case Botafogo sign him, we’ll see whether Textor has something in his mind that could take Welington to Crystal Palace in the future, as he’s been doing similar deals with his other club, Lyon.
