Towards the end of the summer window, Crystal Palace were named as one of the clubs interested in signing Borja Mayoral.
The Real Madrid player is currently at AS Roma, having joined them on a two-year loan deal in 2020.
He finished the last term with 10 goals and two assists in 31 league matches. However, the striker has been restricted to only 16 minutes of action in the first four matches of this season under new manager José Mourinho.
The Serie A side bolstered their attack by adding Tammy Abraham and Eldor Shomurodov to the squad and the duo’s signings left the La Liga side worried about Mayoral.
That’s according to AS on Tuesday, who say Carlo Ancelotti’s side ‘in fact tried to cut’ short the 24-year-old’s loan deal with Roma and ‘suitors were not lacking’.
This is when the Eagles get a mention as the report says Crystal Palace and Fiorentina were in the ‘front row’ to take Mayoral. However, Mourinho ‘cut off the option’ of the Real Madrid owned striker leaving Roma.
Mayoral has faith in himself and Mourinho, and believes he will get opportunities at Roma, if he continues to work and take advantage of the chances that will come his way.
