Valencia are ‘seriously considering’ signing a new goalkeeper this season and Crystal Palace’s Vincente Guaita is at the top of their list.

That’s according to Tribuna Deportiva, relayed by GRADA 3, who say the club are looking at their former youth prospect as the man to solve their goalkeeping issues.

They explain that the ‘irregular performances’ of Jaume Doménech and Jasper Cillessen have led the club’s management to look at adding a new goalkeeper to their squad.

Guaita is one of the names on the list, with the Spaniard having impressed for Crystal Palace this season, conceding just 28 goals in 27 games and keeping nine clean sheets in the process.

Tribuna ‘assume’ that it would take a reasonable transfer fee to get him from Palace, although Valencia do not have unlimited funds for any deal.

Their finances are likely to be ‘notably reduced’ if they fail to qualify for Europe and they have other priorities, such as improving the defence and finding another central midfielder.

Crystal Palace’s hand could be forced, though. Guaita’s deal expires next summer, and there’s been no sign of him signing an extension as yet.

If it becomes clear he won’t agree to an extension; the Eagles would presumably look to sell this summer when there is a suitor rather than lose him on a free next summer.
