Crystal Palace have joined the race for Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic, according to reports from the Italian media today.
Area Napoli say the Selhurst Park side have been in touch with the centre-back’s agent Fali Ramadani over a possible a summer move for the 29-year-old.
Maksimovc’s contract with Napoli expires at the end of the season, and with no signs of a renewal, he’s set to leave for free.
That’s why there’s quite a battle for his signing, which includes competition from London rivals West Ham United, as well as big Serie A sides in the form of Inter and AS Roma.
Area Napoli explain Crystal Palace are looking for three defenders in the summer market, and one of them could arrive on loan or as a free agent.
That would be the case of Maksimovic, who could be granted a good salary at the Premier League side.
The issue for Crystal Palace in all this, however, is that the 29-year-old would rather stay in Italy, where he’s fully adapted, and a transfer to a new country is reportedly seen as a ‘plan B’ as things currently stand.
