Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita probably had one of the best performances we’ve seen this weekend, which led him to be the man of the match in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
This isn’t the first time the Spaniard makes some great saves for the Selhurst Park side this season, and his form is now drawing some big attention from his country.
Outlet AS brings a story today showing all of Guaitá’s numbers in the Premier League, and suggesting that even at the age of 33, he should finally get his first call up to play for the national team.
Their story is pretty big, and shows that Spain’s three goalkeepers (Kepa Arrizabalaga, David De Gea and Unai Simón) have similar numbers to Guaita, who plays for a club of smaller aspirations.
“The numbers show that it wouldn’t be crazy to take Guaita with the Spanish national team”, AS writes.
“There are three months left for the next list and there is plenty of time for him to get in if he continues to have great performances.”
Vicente Guaita signed for Crystal Palace as a free agent following the end of his contract with Getafe in 2018, and in 71 appearances for the London side, he has 21 clean sheets.
However, as his deal with the Eagles expires at the end of the season, AS also claims that the goalkeeper could end up going back to La Liga.
“The only irrefutable fact is that Vicente Guaita ends his contract on June 30 and hasn’t renewed with the English club. Last summer Valencia asked about him and a return to the Spanish league cannot be ruled out.”
