Christian Benteke needs a ‘miracle’ if he’s to get back into the Belgium squad ahead of the World Cup, report DH and others in Belgium on Saturday.
The Crystal Palace striker has been left out of the recent call-up by Belgium manager Roberto Martinez, and it’s believed his chances of getting back in for the trip to Russia are increasingly slim.
Belgium have options in attack with Romelu Lukaku the standout pick, but Michy Batshuayi also doing well in Germany. Divock Origi is another one who will be lucky if he makes the cut, but at least he’s found himself in the current selection.
With Eden Hazard, Dries Mertens and others such as Kevin Mirallas and Thorgan Hazard, Martinez has several ways to play and there’s not a great deal of space for another out and out striker such as Benteke.
Martinez said this week the Crystal Palace player remains in his thoughts, but DH say Benteke’s place ‘is in great danger’.
