Following the end of the season, it became apparent that Jean-Philippe Mateta would not be staying around at Crystal Palace.
The French striker has found minutes hard to come by over the past few months, and the general consensus has been that an exit would be best for all involved.
This is where Genoa come in, as Gazzetta dello Sport report on Friday the player is keen to make the move to Italy if it presents itself.
The newspaper look at what the future could hold for the 25-year-old, who signed for Crystal Palace from 1.FSV Mainz 05 back in January 2022 after an initial loan, and hint it could be in Serie A.
They claim the Italians are ‘trying to set up a negotiation based on a loan with the right to buy’, bringing in Mateta to fight for a starting spot alongside Krzysztof Piatek.
Down his end, the Crystal Palace forward would have ‘given the OK’ to move to Genoa because he sees the move and the club as the ‘right project’ to get himself back on track after a tough season at Selhurst Park.
As things stand, it’s revealed all parties are ‘making the necessary reflections’.
Mateta made 29 appearances in the Premier League last season, but was only able to find the back of the net twice, with his last goal coming in a dramatic 2-1 win over Leicester City, during which he came off the bench to score the winner.
