Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are ‘among the contenders’ for Barcelona youngster Marc Casado.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the 18-year-old midfielder’s performances have ‘attracted the attention’ of the Premier League clubs.

The newspaper reports that while the focus is on incomings and outgoings in Barcelona’s senior team, the market is also ‘buzzing’ at grassroots level.

Casado is one of the youngsters who have ‘stood out’ for the Juvenil A team this season, playing a key role in a side that won the league and cup.

That has not gone unnoticed, and there is interest from the Premier League, with Crystal Palace and Newcastle both showing an interest.

That’s because Casado is set to be out of contract at the end of the month, meaning the pair could pick up one of La Masia’s ‘emerging talents’ on the cheap.

It was presumably that opportunity that had ‘attracted the attention’ of both Crystal Palace and Newcastle, with their interest nothing new, having also been named as suitors in March.

Whether they can get the player remains to be seen, although MD do say that he is close to renewing his deal with Barcelona, meaning they’ll have to move quickly if they do want him.
