Crystal Palace reached a general agreement in the 2020 January window to sign Christian Kouame from Genoa.

The deal was being presented in Italy as on the verge of happening, and then the 23-year-old suffered a serious knee injury.

He had to undergo surgery, and that saw the end of the Crystal Palace move, but Fiorentina swooped in anyway and decided to take a gamble.

Kouame didn’t return until July, then scored one goal and added two assists in seven Serie A matches for Fiorentina.

This season he’s featured in 15 Serie A matches, with the striker finding the back of the net just once. Now used mainly as a late substitute, there have been claims about an exit in the winter market.

Tuscany newspaper La Nazione report Crystal Palace ‘have moved’ for the player this month, along with Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The striker is desperate to start scoring again very quickly, partly to ‘fuel’ the ‘auction’ building for him. Unless he does that then Palace swooping would seem incredibly risky given the knee injury and the lack of goals since.
